Course description

Learn Indian Cooking with our cooking short courses in Sydney!

Learn the age-old art of Indian Cooking in this intensive and hands-on course. Learn about cooking with spices and combining complementary flavours using seasonal local produce and ancient Indian wisdom.

You will come away with the skills and knowledge to help you prepare curries, daals, vegetable dishes and bread that will become a staple in your kitchen. Not only will these fun cooking classes give you confidence while you become familiar with the spices and lentils that you can use in everyday cooking, but they will also give you practical tips on how to incorporate a wholesome Indian way of cooking into your daily culinary life.

Indian cuisine has shaped the history of international relations; the spice trade between India and Europe was the primary catalyst for Europe's Age of Discovery. Spices were bought from India and traded around Europe and Asia. Indian cuisine has influenced other cuisines worldwide, especially those from Europe but particularly Britain, the Middle East, Southern Africa, East Africa, Southeast Asia, North America, Mauritius, Fiji, Oceania, and the Caribbean.

India contributes to 75% of global spice production. This is reflected culturally through Indian cuisine. Historically, the spice trade developed throughout the Indian subcontinent, as well as in East Asia and the Middle East. Europe's demand for spices was among the economic and cultural factors that encouraged exploration in the early modern period.

Drawing from this long history, we will savour the many tastes and aromas so apparent in this style of cooking while learning new cooking techniques.

Course testimonials:

  • Nick said: Excellent course with an enthusiastic and interesting instructor. Food was great and easy to learn. Class was probably a bit crowded for the facilities but it still worked.

  • Helen said: A really enjoyable day. Great course. We got to eat the food after we cooked it, great fun.

  • Susan said: Knowledgeable and personable teacher made for an engaging, entertaining and enjoyable experience smaller class size would provide more time for each student to be more "hands on" kitchen set up not ideal for viewing of the entire class Would have liked recipe for the tea and samosas served prior to the class commencing.
