Course description

Learn to write your thoughts through journals and letters with our writing short courses in Sydney!

Writing down our thoughts and feelings can be liberating, can help us build a greater understanding of ourselves and move past any challenges we face. It can also help develop a more positive mindset and explore any dreams and plans we have for the future. 

In this creative writing course, we will explore a number of writing forms that help capture our thoughts and feelings, such as journaling, letter-writing, and short fiction pieces.

Please note: This course is not a substitute for psychological counselling but a creative outlet that enhances wellbeing.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this journaling course, you should be able to:

  • Create a journal as a way of understanding our own thoughts and feelings
  • Use a journal as a way to explore ideas for future dreams and plans
  • Write a letter to a hypothetical recipient about a challenging period in your life
  • Write a short piece of fiction or creative non-fiction which explores a challenging period in your life

Course content

What will be covered in this journaling course?

  • What is journaling? Explore how famous figures have used journaling and seek inspiration from them.
  • Explore how journaling can record our thoughts and feelings as a way to understand ourselves.
  • Explore how journaling can record our ideas for future dreams and plans.
  • How to write a letter to a hypothetical recipient about a challenging period in our life.
  • How to write a letter to a hypothetical recipient about our feelings about that person.
  • How to write a short piece of fiction or creative non-fiction to explore a challenging period in our life. Write in the third person and consider the use of metaphorical settings and themes.

This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to develop a positive mindset through journal and letter writing.
