Drawing: Hyperrealism Drawing Workshop

DHDW_1

Learn hyperrealism techniques with our drawing short courses in Sydney!

If you’ve ever admired a drawing that looks almost photographic and wondered how artists create such extraordinary realism, this hyperrealism drawing workshop will guide you through the methods behind the effect. Over three structured sessions, you’ll explore how charcoal and graphite can be used to transform careful observation into lifelike depth, texture, and tonal precision. Whether you’re returning to drawing after a long break or wanting to refine an existing practice, this course offers a clear pathway to improving your technique while expanding your artistic confidence.

Led by artist Roshaan Pervaiz, the workshop blends artistic exploration with practical skill-building.  This combination ensures that students not only learn how to draw with realism but also understand the underlying principles that allow hyperrealistic effects to emerge.

Across the three sessions, you’ll explore foundational techniques such as contour drawing, mark-making, shading, and tonal mapping, before progressing to more detailed work in texture development, layering, and controlled blending. You’ll learn how to handle charcoal and graphite to achieve smooth gradients, crisp details, subtle highlights, and deep shadows—skills that elevate your drawings from flat sketches to realistic, dimensional artworks. You’ll also examine composition planning, light direction, value structure, and the way visual contrast shapes mood and clarity.

Each session provides time for guided practice, hands-on exercises, and personalised feedback. This allows you to apply new skills immediately while receiving support tailored to your level. By the end of the workshop, you’ll complete a hyperrealistic drawing that reflects the techniques learned, and you’ll have a stronger foundation for developing your drawing practice further at home.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, returning artists, or creatives wanting to explore new drawing methods. No prior experience is required; all materials are provided, and the studio environment is welcoming and accessible.
