Here you will twist and interlock wire to create stunning statement pieces that can be more personal to you than any other jewellery. By using a range of different tools to shape wires into creative settings for stones, beads or objects, you really will get to understand the process of working with wire.

Our professional jeweller will give you demonstrations and instructions on how to master the techniques of wire wrapping. The techniques you learn in this class will bring a new dimension to your jewellery designs by incorporating new and old objects.

No soldering or other advanced silversmithing techniques are involved. Make wire wrapped jewellery in your lounge room or dining room - no special room required.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this wire wrapped jewellery course, you should be able to:

  • Use basic metalwork tools
  • Understand and apply basic wire wrapping techniques
  • Produce two items of silver jewellery during class

You will design and make

  • Three to five jewellery pieces such as rings, pairs of earrings, bracelets, pendants or decorated ornaments.

  • Joining wires
  • Binding wires
  • Forming scroll, double-ended spirals, hearts
  • Making spiral
  • Making a coiled spiral
  • Joining wire and small beads

Intended audience

Who is this wire wrapped jewellery course for?

This course is for beginners.

Class materials

Materials provided

  • All materials, tools and consumables (except your stones, objects or travel pieces) will be provided
  • Please note: Students can purchase dichroic glass pieces, stones and coins from their tutor. Price per piece: $5-$20.

What to bring to class

  • Notebook and pen
  • Pen or pencil
  • Fine or medium black marker
  • Ordinary white masking tape
  • 30 cm ruler
  • Scissors

If you like to bring your own special piece, please be aware of the maximum sizes:

Pendant: Your piece should be smaller than 40mm × 40mm
Ring: Your piece should be smaller than 20mm × 20mm.

However, should your special piece not match the above sizes, bring it along and the tutor will discuss the options with you.

Please note the following:

  • Closed-in shoes required
  • Please wear old clothes
  • Long hair must be tied back
