Silver Jewellery: Wax Modelling Silver Casting Course

Learn to design signature jewellery with our short jewellery courses in Sydney.
Wax modelling is an excellent technique for crafting intricate silver jewellery pieces. In class, you will design and carve a wax model of a ring or pendant to your desired shape. This model will then be cast off-site in sterling silver, after your piece has been cast you will be able to add any finishing touches and polish your piece.
This enjoyable, structured, and relaxing silver jewellery course is open to everyone, from absolute beginners to those with an art or craft background, who want to learn basic jewellery-making skills.
All materials and tools are included, except for the cost of sterling silver casting. The casting fee will vary based on the size and weight of your piece. Please feel free to discuss your project with your tutor to get an estimate of the costs.
The course can be ongoing, and we encourage you to re-enrol if you wish to continue working on your projects or progress at your own pace.
You can create a unique piece of jewellery for yourself or someone special, or design a limited edition silver jewellery piece for sale.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this silver jewellery course, you should be able to:

What will be covered in this silver jewellery course?
- Appreciate the art and science of the lost wax technique
- Make rings from strips of wax blocks
- Work with tube wax and carve a ring or pendant shape
- Clean up castings
- Finish and polish silver castings

This course is for all levels.
Please note that is course is not suitable for students under the age of 18yrs.

What to bring to class
- The cost of the castings at the last session - Varies depending on size and weight, currently the price of casting silver per gram is approximately $1.75 [Sep 2025].
- Masks, apron and safety goggles (optional)
