Course description
Learn the cosy craft of knitting with our handcraft short courses in Sydney!
Have you never knitted before but want to learn? You're in the right place!
Learn the timeless craft of knitting, and discover the exciting range of possibilities available to the modern knitter.
You'll learn the basics of knitting techniques and work on a particular project of your choosing, with the guidance of your experienced tutor. Demonstrations of stitches and techniques will be provided throughout the course.
Once you've learned the basics, you can create beautiful and practical wearables and homewares which you can use as precious keepsakes, or thoughtful gifts for loved ones.
Come and have a yarn with us, and discover the therapeutic nature of this mindful craft.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this knitting course, you should be able to:
- Knit, purl, cast on and off, simple increase and decrease
- Learn to read simple patterns
- Apply techniques learnt to create or begin a simple knitting project
- Work on their own knitting projects at home
Course content
What will be covered in this knitting course?
- Learn basic knitting stitches.
- Learn about different yarns and their uses.
- Discuss online resources.
- Learn how to change to a new ball of yarn.
- Learn how to read a simple pattern.
- Understanding the importance of tension.
- Discuss basic finishing techniques.
- Using learnt skills, begin or create a simple project

Course materials
What to bring to class
- One pair of 4 mm needles 25 to 30 cm long
- One ball of 8 ply yarn (preferably a mid to light colour)
- In the first week, you and your tutor will discuss possible projects and materials required
- Pen and paper for taking notes
- Please wear closed-in shoes
