Pattern Making from a Garment Workshop

Learn to make a pattern from a favourite garment with our Textile & Fashion short courses in Sydney!
In this One Day Workshop you will learn how to make a pattern from a favourite garment, without having to take it apart or deconstruct it.
Do you have a favourite dress, skirt, top, or pair of pants that you would like to reproduce – perhaps in another fabric or colour? This workshop will show you how to do that without having to unpick your favourite garment.
There is no sewing in this class and you do not need to have completed another pattern making course of any type to undertake this workshop.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this pattern making workshop you will have a cardboard block pattern of the garment you bought to class.
You will also know how to make a pattern from a garment – without unpicking it – and be able to apply the principles to other garments.
Course Content
The day will consist of you learning how to trace out a pattern from your favourite garment – and applying tips and tricks to make the pattern correct – including learning about grain lines and adding seam allowances.
You will also learn how to make any alterations from the original garment. Eg. you may want to make it bigger or smaller / make it longer or shorter / add sleeves etc.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for anyone who likes to sew and would like to reproduce a garment they already have in their wardrobe that they love to wear.
What to bring
A couple of garments that you would like to reproduce. We will definitely get through one pattern, but depending on the style and your speed, you may start a second. It will also give me the opportunity to assess how hard the garments are to reproduce for a beginner.
