Nuno Felting Workshop for Beginners

Learn to create a one-of-a-kind scarf as part of our handcraft courses in Sydney!
Nuno felting is a fabric felting technique developed in the early 1990s. The name comes from the Japanese word "nuno," meaning cloth. This technique bonds loose wool fibres with sheer fabrics like silk gauze and muslin to create a lightweight felt that is highly textured and drapes beautifully.
In this workshop, Gill will guide you through the basics of Nuno felting, including which fabrics are suitable, the essential tools, and various tips and tricks for a successful outcome.
Gill will showcase a range of Nuno felted pieces, discuss different Nuno felting styles, and introduce you to the fascinating process of felt-making. You will be taken step-by-step through designing and creating your own unique 'wearable art' scarf, and Gill will provide all the guidance needed to continue this craft at home.
Felt-making is a very forgiving medium, and you don’t need to be particularly ‘creative’ to enjoy this course. If you love colour and texture, enjoy working with your hands, and are open to experimentation, you will find this process rewarding.
Please note that some repetitive arm and hand movements are required, so keep this in mind when considering the class.
