Introduction to Clay Sculpture Workshop

Unleash your creativity with our clay sculpture workshop, part of our pottery courses in Sydney!
Take some time to explore clay modelling in a creative environment and see what you create. This class is open to all experience levels. You can bring a planned project or use one of the inspiring images provided. Work on your own project at your own pace. You’ll learn various clay techniques, including modelling, carving, coil building, slab building, and hand building.
You'll also become familiar with tools such as knives, kidney tools, cutting wires, wooden tools, sponges, and brushes. Finished sculptures will be hollowed out and prepared for firing. While the firing of the sculptures is not included, your tutor will provide information on where you can have this done. All tools and materials are provided.

By the end of this Sculpture Workshop, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in various clay techniques such as modelling, carving, coil building, slab building, and hand building.
- Use a range of sculpting tools effectively, including knives, kidney tools, cutting wires, wooden tools, sponges, and brushes.
- Complete a sculpture, including hollowing it out and preparing it for firing.
- Understand where and how to arrange for firing your finished sculpture, with guidance on local options provided by the tutor.

Course materials
What to bring to class
- Bring in several black and white A4 prints as large as possible of your chosen subject.
- Please bring in a box or strong board for transporting your sculpture.
- Sculpting tools.
What we provide
- 1/2 a slab of Keane's hand-building clay.
- Limited sculpture tools are available.
Additional information
Please note the following:
- There is no kiln on-site for firing, the tutor will provide information about local firing services.
- Closed-in shoes required
- Please wear old clothes or bring an apron
