Classes focus on the sounds, rhythm, and tone of spoken English, helping you communicate more naturally and with greater ease. You’ll also explore how meaning is shaped through body language and interaction.
Through role-play, listening activities, and the use of conversation gambits, you’ll practise keeping conversations flowing, responding confidently, and engaging more comfortably in real-life conversations.

Course content
What will be covered in this English: Communication Skills course?
This course focuses on helping you interact more comfortably when speaking and listening in Australian English across social and everyday professional contexts.
Topics include:
- Identifying and addressing spoken communication challenges
- Practising conversation using Australian spoken English and common expressions
- Listening and speaking activities to build fluency
- Idioms, essential phrases, and conversational strategies
- Discussing topical and everyday issues
- English vowel and consonant sounds
- Pronunciation practice
- Understanding syllables, word stress, and sentence stress
- Speaking smoothly using contractions and linking
- Practising rhythm and intonation to convey meaning clearly
Please note: due to the variable nature of adult learning groups, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

No textbook is required, as tutors provide all course materials. If you’d like to purchase a dictionary, your tutor can recommend one during the first class.
Certificate of completion
Achievement Recognition
Upon successful completion of the course with at least 80% attendance, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance, recognising your participation and commitment to developing your English communication skills.
