Learning outcomes

By the end of this Japanese knot bag workshop, you should be able to:

  • Understand the design and cultural origins of the Japanese knot bag
  • Choose appropriate fabrics and materials based on purpose and style
  • Follow a pattern and construct a reversible bag using a sewing machine
  • Sew clean seams, curves and top stitch
  • Personalise and finish a unique, handmade accessory with care (please note: the finished bag will be approximately 28x40cm)

Course content

In this 4-hour workshop, you’ll cover:

  • Introduction to the Japanese knot bag: history, uses, and variations
  • Pattern preparation and fabric cutting
  • Step-by-step sewing guidance in a supportive setting
  • Turning, pressing, and finishing your bag
  • Ideas for embellishment and personal touches

Familiarity with a sewing machine will be helpful but not essential.
