Andrew Theophanous

Dr Andrew Theophanous holds a Bachelor of Letters in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Melbourne. Throughout his academic career, he has lectured in philosophy at universities in Australia and the United States, specialising in ethics, political philosophy, human nature, religion, and the history of philosophical thought.
Andrew is the author of three books, including Understanding Social Justice: An Australian Perspective, and has published more than 20 scholarly articles in philosophy, ethics, and social and political theory. His research explores many of the enduring questions that continue to shape human society, from justice and religion to the nature of consciousness, morality, and what it means to live a good life.
Passionate about making philosophy engaging and accessible, Andrew encourages students to think critically, question assumptions, and explore ideas through lively discussion and respectful debate. His classes combine the depth and rigour of university-level philosophy with a welcoming learning environment designed for curious adult learners, regardless of their previous experience.
