Marketing Fundamentals: The 4 Ps and Beyond

MF4P_1

Learn the fundamentals of marketing with our web design and development short courses in Sydney!

Discover what marketing actually is and what makes great brands tick in this practical workshop designed for busy professionals.

Whether you’re new to marketing, helping run a small business, or supporting marketing as part of a wider role, this course gives you a clear, grounded way of thinking about every brand decision. You’ll move from the famous four Ps of marketing product, price, place and promotion, through to choosing who you want to serve, defining what your brand stands for, planning your work on a single page, and proving it actually paid off. Real-world examples from brands like IKEA, LEGO, Dyson, Aldi and Patagonia bring each idea to life. By the end of the day, you’ll see marketing as a connected system of decisions, not a checklist of tactics, and you’ll have practical tools you can use first thing Monday morning.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this website-building workshop, you will have explored concepts and techniques such as:

  • Describe what marketing really is and what it isn’t
  • Explain how strong brands aspire to create lasting value for their customers
  • Choose the right type of research for the question you’re trying to answer
  • Identify who your customers are, and help you to decide who you want to serve
  • Write a clear statement that explains what your brand stands for
  • Use a simple one-page approach to plan your marketing work
  • Make confident choices about product, price, place and how you talk to customers
  • Start to map the journey a customer takes from first contact to becoming a loyal fan

Course content

During the workshop, participants will work with concepts and ideas such as:

  • The foundations of modern marketing and the four core elements every brand decides on: product, price, place and promotion
  •  Understanding your customers, including the difference between what they say they want and what they actually buy
  • Choosing who to serve (and who to let go politely) so your message lands with the right people
  • What a brand really is: the difference between a logo and what people genuinely think of you
  •  Writing a sharp, one-sentence statement that explains why a customer should choose you
  •  Planning your marketing on a single page is a method used by global brands like Mars and Procter & Gamble
  •  Pricing strategies that capture real value (rather than just chasing competitors’ discounts)
  •  Choosing the right sales channels: direct, retail, online marketplaces and the trade-offs of each
  •  How to organise promotion across advertising, social, email, content, public relations and events
  •  Mapping the customer journey: where you quietly win and lose customers without realising
  •  Measuring what matters: which numbers tell you marketing actually worked
  •  Lots of real-world case studies:  Practical hands-on exercises you complete with your peers throughout the day

Intended audience

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Working professionals who want a clear, modern foundation in marketing.
  • Small business owners and entrepreneurs are looking to grow their businesses.
  • Marketing coordinators are stepping into broader marketing responsibilities.
  • Professionals in related fields such as sales, product, operations, communications, or general management who want to better understand and apply marketing principles.
