Learn drawing and cartooning with our drawing short courses in Sydney!

Get ready for an exciting journey into the world of advanced cartooning with our Level 2 course! This course is designed to build on your existing skills and take your cartooning abilities to new heights. Using the methods of professional cartoonists you’ll explore advanced techniques to enhance character designs, tell engaging stories, and master composition principles.

Throughout the course, you’ll dive deep into character development, learning how to create dynamic and memorable characters. You’ll also explore advanced visual storytelling techniques to tell your own stories in cartoon form. Additionally, you’ll learn how to put your characters into their environment and draw hilarious cartoon faces and caricatures. 

One of the highlights of this course is the personal cartoon project, where you’ll independently develop and execute a cartoon project, demonstrating your proficiency in advanced cartooning and storytelling techniques. You’ll receive feedback and guidance on your portfolio, helping you refine your style and showcase your artistic vision. Join us for this fun and rewarding course, and take your cartooning skills to the next level!

Learning outcomes

By the end of this cartoon drawing course, you should be able to:

  • Generate your own cartoon ideas & structure original stories
  • Design your own cartoon character designs using advanced techniques and nuanced expressions.
  • Master facial expressions and body language to convey complex emotions and character depth
  • Understand the basics of caricature and be able to use photos of friends, family, pets and celebrities to draw your own.
  • Draw landscapes and other environments for your characters to live in.
  • Use perspective and advanced composition techniques to create visually dynamic and impactful cartoons
  •  Use tone and colour to enhance your cartoons.
  • Independently develop and execute a personal cartoon project, demonstrating proficiency in advanced cartooning techniques and storytelling.

  • Experiment with a variety of tools to add depth and visual interest to your cartoons.

This course is for students who have completed the beginner's cartoon drawing course , as well as those who have had some prior experience and would like to develop their techniques and skills.

  • HB & 2B pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Eraser

Students are encouraged to bring images/copies of cartoon styles they're interested in. Other materials may be required for certain projects and these will be discussed in class.
